Details
Sink this cave into your substrate and set the open face against the front glass, and you create a shaded burrow hidden just beneath the tank floor. Shrimp, crayfish, and small catfish slip in through the top opening and settle into the dark, while you keep a clear window into a world they usually keep private. Buried and blended with plants, stones, and hardscape, it reads as a natural pocket in the riverbed rather than an added ornament, giving bottom dwellers somewhere to retreat and giving you something to watch.
๐ Full Product Description
The Buried Hideout is a bottom-dweller cave designed to be sunk into your substrate rather than sit on top of it. One side of the shelter is left open so it can be positioned flush against the aquarium glass, turning an ordinary front pane into a viewing window on a sheltered den. A separate opening on the top surface lets inhabitants come and go through the substrate above, so the cave stays functional even when most of it is buried out of sight.
Because the structure disappears into the tank floor, it integrates far more naturally than a standing ornament. Mounded substrate, planting around the entrance, and a few stones or roots nearby blend the hideout into the scape until only the entry and the glass-side window remain visible. The organic, rounded form is meant to echo the kind of undercut burrow that forms naturally along a riverbed, giving the layout depth without drawing attention to itself.
This piece suits small bottom-dwelling aquarium residents that seek out dark, enclosed retreats, including dwarf shrimp, crayfish, corydoras and other small catfish, kuhli loaches, and small plecos, along with snails that graze the sheltered surfaces. Naming a species here is about how buyers search and set up their tanks, not a suitability guarantee: openings, interior clearance, and overall footprint should be compared against the adult size and behavior of your specific animals before you commit to it in a stocked tank.
You receive one Buried Hideout in the size and color you select, 3D printed to order in unpainted, solid-color filament.

๐งฑ Material Options
๐ง PETG Wet Model (submerged aquarium use)
Any version intended to go underwater is printed in PETG and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for submerged decor rather than standard PLA because PETG holds up better to prolonged water exposure. This is a material choice, not a guarantee: the Buried Hideout is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or universally suited to every aquatic animal, so its fit still depends on your species, water conditions, and maintenance.
๐๏ธ PLA Dry Model (dry display only)
A PLA Dry Model is available for tabletop gaming terrain, dioramas, shelf display, and general dry home decor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged aquarium use.
๐ ๏ธ Setup, Use & Care
๐ Aquarium setup (PETG Wet Model)
๐ Inspect the piece before use and gently smooth any stray print texture if needed.
๐ฆ Rinse thoroughly with clean water only. Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
๐ณ๏ธ Bury the cave in your substrate with the open face against the glass, then confirm the top opening and interior clearance suit the animals you keep.
โ๏ธ Seat it securely so it cannot shift, tip, trap an animal, or press hard against the glass as substrate settles.
๐ Introduce it thoughtfully and watch how your animals interact with it over the first days.
๐ Check it during normal maintenance for trapped waste, wear, or sharp areas, and remove it if it becomes damaged or no longer fits securely.
๐ฆ Terrarium / dry setup (PLA Dry Model)
๐ก๏ธ Keep it away from high-output heat lamps, heating elements, and open flames. PLA softens with heat.
๐งน Dust with a soft brush or cloth, and use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate.
๐ Position it securely so it cannot tip, and check openings against your animalโs adult size if used in a dry vivarium.
๐งผ Cleaning
For the submerged PETG Wet Model, rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning, and let it dry fully before long-term storage. For the dry PLA Model, dust or wipe gently and keep it away from intense heat. Do not use chemical cleaners in an animal habitat unless you have confirmed they are suitable for that setup.

๐จ Color and Appearance
Available filament colors: See Below
Aquarium versions are printed in solid-color PETG . Natural-looking variation comes from choosing an appropriate filament color rather than from applied paint. Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches, and the finished look can shift again once the piece is submerged or lit under aquarium lighting. No exact color match is promised.
๐จ๏ธ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D-printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. They are not defects, and they make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because every item is individually produced rather than injection molded.
๐ฆ Made to Order
Each Buried Hideout is printed individually once you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time. Estimated processing time: 2-4 Days
โ ๏ธ Safety and Compatibility
This is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, openings, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the piece should be removed if it becomes damaged, since small or broken pieces can present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, behavior, enclosure design, water chemistry, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm the item fits your specific setup before relying on it.

โ FAQ
โ Can this be placed underwater?
Yes, the PETG Wet Model is made for submerged aquarium use. It is designed to be buried in substrate with the open side against the glass.
โ Is the aquarium version painted?
No. The submerged version is unpainted, solid-color PETG. Color comes from the filament, not from paint or coatings.
โ Can I order this in PLA?
Yes. A PLA Dry Model is available for dry display, dioramas, and tabletop use only. PLA is not recommended for submerged aquarium use, so choose the PETG Wet Model for anything going in a tank.
โ Can I paint it myself?
You are free to finish a dry-display piece however you like. For anything going into an animal habitat, any paint, sealant, or coating must be independently researched and confirmed as suitable for your specific species and environment first, so the panel ships unpainted by default.
โ How should I clean it?
Rinse the PETG Wet Model with clean water and use a soft brush if needed, avoiding soaps, solvents, abrasives, and high heat. Dust the PLA Dry Model gently and keep it away from heat.
โ Will it look exactly like the photographs?
It will be very close, but as a made-to-order 3D print it will show fine layer lines and slight, unique variation, and color can look different under aquarium lighting or once submerged.
โ Is it suitable for my specific fish, reptile, amphibian, snail, or shrimp?
It is popular with small bottom dwellers like shrimp, crayfish, and small catfish, but only you can confirm fit. Compare the openings and interior clearance against the adult size and behavior of your animals, and prioritize species-specific husbandry guidance from a qualified source over general product suggestions.
