🪨 OPENING HOOK
Most hides disappear the moment an animal ducks inside. This one keeps the show going. The Buried Cave sits fully beneath your substrate with a single side window pressed against the glass, so a burrowing gecko, a shy dart frog, or a ground-dwelling shrimp is still visible in its secret underground room. Only the top access hole breaks the surface, reading as a natural gap in the sand or soil.
📖 FULL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Buried Cave is a below-the-surface hideout designed to be covered completely by substrate, with one clever exception. The flat side opening is meant to rest directly against the front or side glass of your enclosure, turning an ordinary hide into a viewing chamber. Instead of losing sight of your animal every time it retreats, you get a window into a behavior most keepers never see: resting, burrowing, and sheltering at ground level.
Access runs through the top opening, the only part of the model that protrudes above the substrate line. Sand, soil, coco fiber, gravel, or aquarium substrate can be mounded over the rest of the body, so the finished look is a small, dark entrance in an otherwise natural floor. Underneath, your animal gets a narrow, enclosed, ground-level retreat of exactly the kind that burrow-seeking species gravitate toward.
The piece works in both terrariums and aquariums depending on the material you choose. In a bioactive terrarium it becomes a hidden den for ground-dwellers; in an aquarium it becomes a buried cave for bottom-oriented fish and invertebrates. On the dry side, it suits ground-dwelling reptiles and amphibians along with invertebrates such as tarantulas, isopods, millipedes, and springtails. In a misted or aquatic PETG setup it suits shrimp, small bottom-dwelling fish, and other substrate-level animals. Naming a species here is about matching the design to how you keep it, not a promise of suitability, so compare the top and side openings and the interior dimensions against the size and behavior of your specific animals before committing to it.
You receive one Buried Cave in the size and material you select, printed unpainted in a single solid filament color. Some listing photos may show a painted example purely to illustrate finishing possibilities; the product ships unpainted.

🧱 MATERIAL OPTIONS
This piece is offered in two versions so it fits your enclosure's moisture level.
💧 PETG Wet Model
For aquariums, paludariums, misted or bioactive terrariums, high-humidity habitats, and partially submerged use. CurioPrinta uses PETG for submerged and high-moisture décor rather than standard PLA because PETG holds up better to prolonged water exposure. It is supplied completely unpainted. This is not a claim that it is permanently waterproof, chemically inert, or universally aquarium safe for every aquatic species.
🖥️ PLA Dry Model
For arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, shelf display, and general home décor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged aquarium use.
🐟 AQUARIUM USE INFORMATION
Choose the PETG Wet Model for aquarium use, then:
🚰 Rinse thoroughly with clean water before placing it in the tank.
🚫 Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
🔍 Inspect the item before use.
📏 Confirm the top and side openings are appropriately sized for the animals in the tank.
⚖️ Bury and seat it securely so it cannot shift, tip, trap an animal, or press awkwardly against the glass beyond the intended viewing window.
🧽 Check it periodically as part of normal aquarium maintenance.
♻️ Remove it if it becomes damaged, develops sharp areas, or no longer sits securely.
👀 Introduce it thoughtfully and observe your animals after installation.
This is general guidance, not veterinary advice, and it is not a promise that the cave suits every fish, shrimp, snail, or aquatic animal.
🦎 TERRARIUM USE INFORMATION
For terrariums, vivariums, and paludariums:
🌡️ Verify the material and design suit your habitat's temperature, humidity, lighting, and species.
🔥 Keep it away from high-output heat lamps, heating elements, and other intense heat sources.
⚖️ Seat it securely in the substrate so it cannot tip or collapse.
📏 Check the top and side openings against your animal's adult size.
🧽 Inspect regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or spots that are hard to clean.
📚 Species-specific husbandry guidance from a qualified source takes priority over general product suggestions.
It is not chew-proof, claw-proof, escape-proof, or heat-proof, and it is not suitable for every reptile or amphibian.
📐 DIMENSIONS
Approximate dimensions, presented as Length × Width × Height:
Small (S1)
3.9" × 2.6" × 1.5" (100 × 67 × 39 mm)
Medium (S2)
4.7" × 3.2" × 1.9" (120 × 81 × 47 mm)
Large (S3)

XL
5.5" × 3.7" × 2.1" (140 × 95 × 54 mm)
Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur.
🎨 COLOR AND APPEARANCE
The cave is printed in a single solid, unpainted filament color. Aquarium (PETG Wet Model) versions are printed in solid-color PETG and are not painted. Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches, and the appearance can shift once the piece is under substrate or viewed through aquarium lighting and water. A natural look comes from choosing an appropriate filament color rather than from applied paint. An exact color match is not guaranteed.
🧩 ABOUT 3D PRINTING
This item is created using FDM 3D-printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. They are not defects, and they make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints, since each cave is individually produced rather than injection molded. This does not mean noticeable structural defects are acceptable.
🧼 CLEANING AND CARE
💧 PETG Wet Model (submerged / high-humidity):
Rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Let it dry completely before long-term storage.
🖥️ PLA Dry Model (display):
Dust with a soft brush or cloth, use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate, and keep it away from intense heat.
🏭 MADE TO ORDER
Each Buried Cave is printed individually, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time.
⚠️ SAFETY AND COMPATIBILITY
This is decorative habitat décor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, openings, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the item should be removed if it becomes damaged, since small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, water chemistry, temperature, or maintenance routine, so confirm the fit for your specific setup before use.
📦 WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
