Details
Picture the shaded floor of a tropical rainforest at the base of an old tree: buttress roots spreading into the soil, damp bark textured with age, and leaf litter caught in the hollows between the roots. This background recreates that ground-level scene against the back of your enclosure, giving your animals a naturalistic tree-base backdrop with real depth, planting pockets, and sheltered nooks to explore. It turns a flat glass wall into the rooted, living-floor look of a bioactive rainforest habitat.
📖 Full Product Description
This is a CurioPrinta exclusive 3D printed terrarium background designed to sit against the rear pane of a terrarium, vivarium, or paludarium. The surface is sculpted as a tropical forest floor at the base of a tree: spreading root buttresses, textured bark, uneven ground, and the shadowed recesses where roots meet soil. It is meant to be the structural backdrop of a bioactive or planted enclosure, adding height, organic texture, and multiple levels for planting and climbing rather than a flat printed panel.
The root hollows and ground contours double as planting pockets and sheltered nooks. In a bioactive or planted build you can tuck moss, ferns, epiphytes, and leaf litter into the recesses so greenery grows into the piece over time and the roots read as though they have always been there. The raised roots and low pockets give animals shaded areas to retreat into and surfaces to move across, breaking up the enclosure into natural sightlines and hiding spots.
The forest-floor styling suits keepers of humid, planted setups. The naturalistic tree-base look works well for high-humidity residents such as dart frogs, tree frogs, crested geckos, and day geckos, alongside the insects and invertebrates that share a rainforest floor, including tropical isopods, springtails, praying mantises, and millipedes. Naming these animals is for search relevance and design context only. Always compare the roots, pockets, and openings against the size and behavior of your specific animals before use.
You receive the forest-floor background in the size you select, printed unpainted in a single solid color. Plants, substrate, leaf litter, animals, lighting, and the enclosure itself are not included. Every piece is printed to order, so the exact texture and layer character will be slightly unique to your background.

🧱 Material Options
Printed in PETG, shipped unpainted
This background is printed in PETG across all sizes and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for humid, misted, bioactive, and brightly lit enclosures because it stands up to prolonged moisture and UV exposure far better than standard PLA. That is a material choice, not a guarantee: continuous high-output UV can still gradually embrittle PETG over time, and PETG is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or universally suitable for every animal or set of conditions. Choose the filament color that reads most naturally for your layout, and the piece arrives ready to plant and install as printed.
🔧 Setup, Use & Care
For terrarium, vivarium & paludarium use
💧 Rinse the background thoroughly with clean water before placing it in an enclosure. Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
🌡️ Verify the material and design suit your habitat’s temperature, humidity, lighting, and species.
🔥 Keep it away from direct contact with high-output heat lamps, heating elements, and other intense heat sources.
🧱 Position the background securely against the back so it cannot shift, tip, collapse, or trap an animal.
🦎 Check the roots, pockets, and openings against your animal’s adult size and behavior before use.
🔍 Inspect it regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or areas that are hard to clean, and remove it if it becomes damaged or develops sharp areas.
📘 Let qualified, species-specific husbandry guidance take priority over general product suggestions.
Cleaning
Rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Allow the background to dry completely if it is removed for long-term storage.
📐 Dimensions
Approximate dimensions (Width × Depth × Height), imperial first with metric in parentheses:
Small (S1) 5.0" × 3.5" × 5.4" (126 × 90 × 137 mm)
Medium (S2) 6.3" × 4.5" × 6.9" (160 × 114 × 174 mm)
Large (S3) 7.7" × 5.5" × 8.3" (195 × 139 × 212 mm)
XL 9.0" × 6.4" × 9.8" (229 × 163 × 249 mm)
All four sizes share the same proportions. Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur.
✨ How to Request a Quote for a Custom Size
Need a size that is not listed? It is easy. Click the "Message Seller" button on this page and send us your preferred model along with the Width and Height you need in inches, and we will send you a quote. Our turnaround time for quotes is typically under 4 hours during regular business hours.
No Returns
Because every tank is unique, we specialize in made-to-measure sizes and respond very quickly to quote requests. Please note that orders for this item are not refundable or exchangeable due to incorrect sizing, so measure twice before you order.
🎨 Color and Appearance
The background is printed in a solid-color filament and is not painted. A range of natural filament tones is available so you can pick one that reads as bark, root, or forest ground for your layout. Available colors are coffee brown, oak, olive green, green, grey, white, ceramic white, bone white, midnight, roasted chestnut, and black. Some listing photos may show the background painted; those are finishing examples only, and your piece ships unpainted.
Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches. The appearance can also shift under terrarium or grow lighting and once plants and substrate settle around it. Natural-looking variation comes from selecting an appropriate filament color rather than from applied paint, and an exact color match is not promised.
🖨️ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. These details are not considered defects and make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because each background is individually produced rather than injection molded.
🛠️ Made to Order
Each background is printed individually after you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time. Custom sizes are available by quote, as described in the custom size section above.
⚠️ Safety and Compatibility
This product is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, roots, pockets, openings, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your specific animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the item should be removed if it becomes damaged, as small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, humidity level, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm suitability for your own setup before use.
CurioPrinta does not describe this product as "reptile safe," "amphibian safe," "non-toxic," or guaranteed for any specific animal. Naming a species anywhere in this listing is for search relevance and design context, not a compatibility or safety claim.

❓ FAQ
💧 Can this be used in a humid or misted enclosure?
Yes. It is printed in PETG, which CurioPrinta uses for humid, misted, bioactive, and high-UV setups because it handles prolonged moisture and UV better than standard PLA. Rinse it first, position it securely, and check it as part of normal maintenance.
🎨 Is the background painted?
No. It ships completely unpainted in a solid filament color of your choice. Any painted images are finishing examples only.
📏 Can I get a size that is not listed?
Yes. Click "Message Seller," send your preferred model with the Width and Height you need in inches, and we will send a custom quote, usually in under 4 hours during regular business hours.
🖌️ Can I paint it myself?
You can, but for anything in an animal habitat you must independently research and confirm that any paint or coating is suitable for your intended species and conditions. CurioPrinta ships the background unpainted and does not recommend applied coatings for humid or planted enclosures without your own verification.
🧹 How should I clean it?
Rinse with clean water and use a soft brush if needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasives, boiling water, and dishwashers, and let it dry completely if removed for storage.
📷 Will it look exactly like the photographs?
It will be very close, but small differences in texture, layer lines, and color are normal for made-to-order 3D prints, and appearance can shift under terrarium lighting or once plants and substrate settle around it.
🦎 Is it suitable for my specific reptile, amphibian, or invertebrate?
That depends on your animal and setup, so please compare the dimensions, roots, and openings against your species and follow qualified husbandry guidance. CurioPrinta cannot guarantee compatibility with any specific animal.
