Details
Weathered stone walls, old columns, and stepped platforms rise along the back of the enclosure like a structure the land reclaimed long ago. Forgotten Ruins turns a flat rear pane into layered terrain with real depth, raised levels, and a narrow stone bridge linking two sides of the scene. Plant around it for a bioactive jungle ruin, or keep it spare for a quiet, sun-bleached temple in an arid build.
π Full Product Description
Forgotten Ruins is a 3D printed stone ruin backwall designed by novYTerra to sit at the back of a terrarium, vivarium, paludarium, or aquarium. The design combines weathered stone walls and old columns with offset platforms at different heights. Stair-like rises climb between levels, and a narrow stone bridge connects the two sections of the design. Irregular, broken stone edges and a decorated wall element give it the look of a long-abandoned building rather than a smooth molded panel.
Functionally, it works as habitat backdrop first. The staggered platforms add usable surfaces and vertical levels, and the stepped layout builds depth from front to back. In a planted or bioactive setup it makes a strong centerpiece for moss, ferns, and trailing plants to grow around. In a simpler enclosure it holds its own as a clean ruin scene. It also suits dioramas, tabletop gaming terrain, and shelf display.
Choose the version that matches your habitat. The PETG Wet Model is for high-humidity, misted, bioactive, submerged, and high-UV setups. The PLA Dry Model is for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, and dry display only.
Keepers use this style of backwall with a wide range of animals. In humid builds with the PETG Wet Model, that includes dart frogs and crested geckos along with invertebrates such as tropical isopods, and in freshwater aquariums, bettas and cherry shrimp. In dry builds with the PLA Dry Model, it fits arid layouts for leopard geckos along with invertebrates such as tarantulas and scorpions. Species are named here for design context only. Always compare the platforms, steps, gaps, and openings against the adult size and behavior of your specific animals before use.
You receive one Forgotten Ruins backwall in the size and model you select, printed unpainted in a single solid filament color. Every size ships as 4 separate printed pieces that together form the full ruin scene. Plants, substrate, animals, lighting, and the enclosure are not included.

𧱠Material Options
Forgotten Ruins is offered in two versions in both sizes:
π§ PETG Wet Model
Choose this version for aquariums, paludariums, and high-humidity, misted, or bioactive terrariums, and for enclosures under high-output UV lighting. It is printed in PETG and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for submerged and wet decor rather than standard PLA because PETG is better suited to prolonged exposure to water and UV. That is a material choice, not a guarantee: continuous high-output UV can still gradually embrittle PETG over time, and PETG is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or suitable for every animal or water condition.
π΅ PLA Dry Model
Choose this version for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop gaming, shelf display, and general home decor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged aquarium use. PLA is also not recommended for constantly wet or heavily misted enclosures or strong UV lighting, and it can soften under sustained heat, so keep it well away from basking spots and heat sources.
π§ Setup, Use & Care
Aquarium use (PETG Wet Model only)
π§ Rinse all 4 pieces thoroughly with clean water before placing them in an aquarium.
π« Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
π Inspect every piece before use, and confirm gaps, steps, and openings are appropriately sized for the animals in the tank.
𧱠Position the pieces securely so they cannot shift, tip, trap an animal, or press against the aquarium glass.
π Check it periodically during normal maintenance, and remove any piece that becomes damaged, develops sharp areas, or no longer sits securely.
π Introduce any new decoration thoughtfully and observe your animals after installation.
Terrarium, vivarium & paludarium use
π‘οΈ Match the model to your habitat: PETG Wet Model for humid, misted, bioactive, or UV-lit enclosures, PLA Dry Model for dry setups only. Verify the material and design suit your temperature, humidity, lighting, and species.
π₯ Keep it away from high-output heat lamps, heating elements, open flames, and other intense heat sources.
𧱠Set the pieces securely against the back so they cannot tip or collapse.
π¦ Check platforms, gaps, and openings against your animalβs adult size.
π§Ή Inspect regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or areas that are hard to clean.
π Let qualified, species-specific husbandry guidance take priority over general product suggestions.
Cleaning
π§ PETG Wet Model: rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Let it dry completely before long-term storage.
π΅ PLA Dry Model: dust with a soft brush or cloth, use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate, and keep away from intense heat.
π Dimensions
Approximate dimensions (Length Γ Width Γ Height):
Small (S1) 3.9" Γ 3.9" Γ 4.6" (100 Γ 99 Γ 118 mm)
XL 10.9" Γ 5.0" Γ 7.1" (278 Γ 126 Γ 181 mm)
Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur.
π¨ Color and Appearance
Forgotten Ruins is printed in a solid-color filament and is not painted. Aquarium versions are solid-color PETG with no paint, sealant, or coating. A natural stone look comes from choosing a suitable filament color rather than from applied finishes. Some listing photos may show the backwall painted; those are finishing examples only, and your piece ships unpainted.
Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches, and the appearance can shift when submerged or viewed under aquarium lighting. An exact color match is not promised.
π¨οΈ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. These details are not considered defects and make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because each piece is individually produced rather than injection molded.
π οΈ Made to Order
Each backwall is printed individually after you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time.
𧩠Both sizes ship unassembled as 4 separate printed pieces that together form the full ruin scene. You arrange and position them in your enclosure.
β οΈ Safety and Compatibility
This product is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, openings, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and any piece should be removed if it becomes damaged, since small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, water chemistry, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm suitability for your own setup.
Species named in this listing are for search relevance and design context, not a compatibility or safety claim.
π¦ What Is Not Included

πΏ Plants, moss, and substrate
πͺ¨ Rocks, wood, and other props

β FAQ
π§ Can this be placed underwater?
Yes, when you choose the PETG Wet Model. It ships unpainted, and PETG is the material CurioPrinta uses for submerged decor because it handles prolonged water exposure better than standard PLA. Rinse it first, position it securely, and check it during normal maintenance. The PLA Dry Model should never go underwater.
π¨ Is the aquarium version painted?
No. The PETG Wet Model ships completely unpainted in a solid filament color. Any painted photos are finishing examples only.
π΅ Can I order this in PLA?
Yes, as the PLA Dry Model for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, and dry display. PLA is not recommended for submerged aquarium use, heavily misted enclosures, strong UV lighting, or placement near heat.
π Which version should I pick for a UV-lit or misted setup?
The PETG Wet Model. PETG holds up to moisture and UV better than PLA. It is not immune, since continuous high-output UV can gradually embrittle it over time, but it is the more durable choice for humid or brightly lit enclosures.
𧩠Does it come assembled?
No. Both sizes ship as 4 separate printed pieces that together form the full ruin scene, and you arrange them in your enclosure.
ποΈ Can I paint it myself?
You can, but any paint or coating used in an animal habitat must be independently researched and confirmed as suitable for your species and environment. CurioPrinta does not recommend customer-applied paint for submerged use.
π§Ή How should I clean it?
Rinse the PETG Wet Model with clean water and a soft brush if needed, with no soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasives, boiling water, or dishwashers. Dust the PLA Dry Model with a soft brush or a lightly damp cloth.
π· Will it look exactly like the photographs?
Very close, but small differences in texture, layer lines, and color are normal for made-to-order prints, and appearance can shift under aquarium lighting or when submerged.
π Is it suitable for my specific fish, reptile, amphibian, snail, or shrimp?
That depends on your animal and setup. Please compare the dimensions, platforms, gaps, and openings against your species and follow qualified husbandry guidance. CurioPrinta cannot guarantee compatibility with any specific animal.
