Details
Stacked slabs of weathered stone rise into a small mountain, each layer stepping back to form a new ledge, a wide sunning shelf, or a shadowed gap between rocks. Underneath, an open passage runs straight through the base, giving animals a sheltered route from one side of the enclosure to the other. It reads like a real rocky outcrop, the kind of formation that builds a whole landscape around itself rather than sitting quietly in a corner.
📖 Full Product Description
Desert Mountain is a freestanding 3D printed rock formation built from overlapping stone plates that stack into a broad, multi-level landscape. The surface carries a naturally irregular rock texture, with rough faces, chipped edges, and layered seams that catch light the way real sedimentary stone does. Designed by novYTerra and printed by CurioPrinta under a commercial license, it is meant to be a centerpiece: wide enough to anchor the middle of an enclosure, tall enough to add real vertical interest.
The stacked plates create platforms at several different heights, from large flat surfaces suited to basking and resting down to smaller footholds and steps. Multiple routes lead up and back down, so animals can circle the formation rather than approach it from one side. The open center forms a generous passage beneath the rock, which works as a shaded shelter in a terrarium and as a swim-through in an aquarium. The broader ledges also hold a little substrate, so you can plant moss, small succulents, or trailing plants directly into the terrain and let the formation grow into your layout over time.
It suits desert and rocky builds most obviously, but the naturalistic texture also works in planted terrariums, bioactive vivariums, paludariums, aquascapes, and dry dioramas or tabletop terrain. Place it as a central island with open floor around it, push it toward a back corner as a rising cliff, or partially bury the base in substrate so the lowest plates read as bedrock.
Two versions cover different habitats. The PETG Wet Model fits misted, bioactive, submerged, and high-UV setups, which covers high-humidity residents such as dart frogs, tree frogs, crested geckos, and day geckos, along with tropical isopods and springtails, as well as brightly lit arid enclosures for animals like bearded dragons. The PLA Dry Model suits drier, low-UV terrariums, dioramas, and display, the sort of setup used for leopard geckos, many tarantulas, temperate isopods, and millipedes. Match the version to your humidity and lighting, and compare the platforms, gaps, and passage opening against the adult size and behavior of your specific animals before use.
You receive one Desert Mountain rock formation in the size you select, printed unpainted in a single solid filament color and shipped as a single piece in every size. Plants, substrate, animals, lighting, and the enclosure are not included.

🧱 Material Options
This piece is offered in two versions across all four sizes, so you can match it to your enclosure:
PETG Wet Model
Choose this version for aquariums, paludariums, misted or bioactive terrariums, and any enclosure running high-output UV or basking lighting. It is printed in PETG and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for wet and high-UV decor rather than standard PLA because PETG handles prolonged moisture and UV exposure considerably better. That is a material choice rather than a guarantee: continuous high-output UV can still gradually embrittle PETG over time, and PETG is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or universally suitable for every animal or water condition.
PLA Dry Model
Choose this version for arid, low-UV terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, shelf display, and general home decor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged aquarium use, constantly wet or heavily misted enclosures, or setups with strong UV or close basking lamps. Pick PLA only when the formation will stay dry and out of intense light and heat.
🔧 Setup, Use & Care
For submerged and aquarium use (PETG Wet Model)
💧 Rinse the formation thoroughly with clean water before placing it in an aquarium.
🚫 Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
🔍 Inspect it before use and confirm the passage and gaps between plates are appropriately sized for the animals in the tank.
🧱 Seat it on firm, level substrate so it cannot shift, tip, trap an animal, or press against the glass.
🔁 Check it periodically during normal maintenance, and remove it if it becomes damaged, develops sharp areas, or no longer sits securely.
🐟 Introduce any new decoration thoughtfully and observe your animals after installation.
For terrarium, vivarium & paludarium use
🌡️ Verify the material and design suit your habitat’s temperature, humidity, lighting, and species.
🔥 Keep it away from direct contact with basking bulbs, heat lamps, heating elements, and other intense heat sources, and choose the PETG Wet Model for strongly lit enclosures.
🧱 Position it on a stable, level surface, or bed the base slightly into substrate, so the stack cannot tip or shift under a climbing animal.
🦎 Check the passage opening, ledge widths, and plate gaps against your animal’s adult size.
🧹 Inspect regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or recesses that are difficult to clean.
📘 Let qualified, species-specific husbandry guidance take priority over general product suggestions.
Cleaning
For the PETG Wet Model, rinse with clean water and use a soft brush on the textured surface when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Allow it to dry completely if it is removed for long-term storage. For the PLA Dry Model, dust with a soft brush or cloth, use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate, and keep it away from intense heat.
📐 Dimensions
Approximate dimensions (Length × Width × Height), imperial first with metric in parentheses:
Small (S1) 5.5" × 3.5" × 3.1" (140 × 89 × 80 mm)
Medium (S2) 6.3" × 4.0" × 3.6" (160 × 102 × 92 mm)
Large (S3) 7.1" × 4.5" × 4.1" (180 × 115 × 103 mm)
XL 8.3" × 5.3" × 4.7" (210 × 134 × 120 mm)
Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur.
🎨 Color and Appearance
The formation is printed in a solid-color filament and is not painted, so the stone character comes from the sculpted texture and the filament tone you choose rather than from any applied finish. Some listing photos show the model painted; those are finishing examples only, and your piece ships unpainted.
Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches. The appearance can also shift when submerged or viewed under aquarium and basking lighting. An exact color match is not promised.
🖨️ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. These details are not considered defects and make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, such as under the ledges and inside the passage, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because each formation is individually produced rather than injection molded.
🛠️ Made to Order
Each formation is printed individually after you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time.
🧩 Every size, including the XL, is printed and shipped as a single piece. There is no assembly on your end.
⚠️ Safety and Compatibility
This product is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, platforms, openings, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your specific animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the item should be removed if it becomes damaged, as small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. Because this piece is built for climbing, pay particular attention to how securely it sits and how far an animal could fall from the upper platforms. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, water chemistry, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm suitability for your own setup before use.
CurioPrinta does not describe this product as "aquarium safe," "reptile safe," "non-toxic," or guaranteed for any specific animal. Naming a species anywhere in this listing is for search relevance and design context, not a compatibility or safety claim.

❓ FAQ
💧 Can this be placed underwater?
Yes, when you choose the PETG Wet Model. PETG is the material CurioPrinta uses for submerged and high-humidity decor because it handles prolonged water exposure better than standard PLA. Rinse it first, seat it firmly on the substrate, and check it during normal maintenance.
🎨 Is the aquarium version painted?
No. The PETG Wet Model ships completely unpainted in a solid filament color. Any painted images are finishing examples only.
🧱 Can I order this in PLA?
Yes, as the PLA Dry Model for arid low-UV terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, and dry display. PLA is not recommended for submerged use, constantly wet enclosures, or setups with strong UV or close basking lamps.
☀️ Which version suits a desert setup with a basking lamp?
The PETG Wet Model. Desert enclosures often run high-output UV and basking bulbs, and PETG holds up to that light far better than PLA. It is not immune, since continuous UV gradually embrittles any plastic, but it is the more durable choice. Keep the formation out of direct contact with the bulb either way.
🧩 Does the XL size come assembled?
The XL prints and ships as a single piece, as do all the smaller sizes. Nothing needs to be joined or glued.
🖌️ Can I paint it myself?
You can, but for anything going into an animal habitat you need to independently research and confirm that the paint or coating is suitable for your intended species and conditions. CurioPrinta does not recommend customer-applied paint for submerged use and ships the piece unpainted.
🧹 How should I clean it?
Rinse the PETG Wet Model with clean water and use a soft brush if needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasives, boiling water, and dishwashers. Dust the PLA Dry Model with a soft brush or a lightly damp cloth.
📷 Will it look exactly like the photographs?
It will be very close, but small differences in texture, layer lines, and color are normal for made-to-order 3D prints, and the appearance can shift under aquarium or basking lighting.
🦎 Is it suitable for my specific reptile, amphibian, invertebrate, fish, or shrimp?
That depends on your animal and setup, so please compare the dimensions, platform sizes, plate gaps, and passage opening against your species and follow qualified husbandry guidance. CurioPrinta cannot guarantee compatibility with any specific animal.
