Details
Weathered stone, carved hieroglyphs, and sculpted temple details turn the back of your enclosure into a ruin that looks like it has been half swallowed by sand and time. Stacked levels and platforms climb the wall, while shaded hiding spots tuck in between the masonry. Set it behind a planted vivarium, an arid desert build, or an aquascape, and it becomes the ancient backdrop the rest of your layout grows around.
📖 Full Product Description
This is a 3D printed backwall designed to sit against the rear pane of a terrarium, vivarium, paludarium, or aquarium. Designed by novYTerra, it is styled as the remains of an ancient Egyptian temple: worn stone blocks, temple architecture, carved hieroglyph panels, and sculpted embellishments, all with a realistic weathered stone texture rather than a smooth molded finish.
It works as a real habitat backdrop, not just a display piece. Multiple levels and platforms give climbing animals places to explore and rest, and the recessed hiding spots offer shaded cover. The stone styling blends naturally into both desert and tropical layouts: pair it with sand and dry hardscape for an arid scene, or let moss and trailing plants creep across the ledges in a planted or bioactive build. In an aquarium, it adds vertical structure and depth for fish and shrimp to weave around.
Two versions let you match it to your habitat. For misted, bioactive, or aquatic setups, the PETG Wet Model fits keepers of high-humidity animals such as crested geckos and dart frogs, along with tropical isopods, and aquarium residents such as bettas and dwarf shrimp. For an arid build, the PLA Dry Model suits desert-style terrariums housing animals such as leopard geckos, many tarantulas, and jumping spiders. Always compare the ledges, openings, and hiding spots against the adult size and behavior of your specific animals before use.
You receive the temple ruin backwall as a single printed piece in the size you select, unpainted in a solid filament color. Every piece is printed to order, so the texture and layer character of yours will be slightly unique.

🧱 Material Options
This backwall is offered in two versions across all sizes, so you can match it to your enclosure:
PETG Wet Model
Choose this version for aquariums, high-humidity, misted, bioactive, or partially submerged setups, and for enclosures under high-output UV lighting. It is printed in PETG and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for these setups rather than standard PLA because PETG handles prolonged moisture and UV exposure much better than PLA. That is a material choice, not a guarantee: continuous high-output UV can still gradually embrittle PETG over time, and PETG is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or universally suitable for every animal or water condition.
PLA Dry Model
Choose this version for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, shelf display, and general home decor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged aquarium use, constantly wet or heavily misted enclosures, or setups with strong UV lighting. Pick PLA only when the backwall will stay dry and out of intense UV and heat.
🔧 Setup, Use & Care
For submerged and aquarium use (PETG Wet Model)
💧 Rinse the backwall thoroughly with clean water before placing it in an aquarium.
🚫 Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
🔍 Inspect it before use and confirm openings and hiding spots are appropriately sized for the animals in the tank.
🧱 Position it securely so it cannot shift, tip, trap an animal, or press hard against the glass.
🔁 Check it periodically during normal maintenance, and remove it if it becomes damaged, develops sharp areas, or no longer fits securely.
🐟 Introduce any new decoration thoughtfully and observe your animals after installation.
For terrarium, vivarium & paludarium use
🌡️ Verify the material and design suit your habitat’s temperature, humidity, lighting, and species.
🔥 Keep it away from direct contact with basking lamps, heating elements, and other intense heat sources (especially the PLA Dry Model in desert setups).
🧱 Position the backwall securely so it cannot tip or collapse.
🦎 Check platforms, hiding spots, and openings against your animal’s adult size.
🧹 Inspect regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or areas that are hard to clean.
📘 Let qualified, species-specific husbandry guidance take priority over general product suggestions.
Cleaning
For the PETG Wet Model, rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Allow it to dry completely if it is removed for long-term storage. For the PLA Dry Model, dust with a soft brush or cloth, use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate, and keep it away from intense heat.
📐 Dimensions
Approximate dimensions (Width × Depth × Height), imperial first with metric in parentheses:
Small (S1) 4.7" × 2.1" × 5.5" (120 × 54 × 140 mm)
Medium (S2) 5.7" × 3.1" × 8.4" (145 × 78 × 213 mm)
Large (XL) 7.5" × 3.4" × 7.5" (190 × 86 × 190 mm)
S2 is the tallest size, while the XL is the widest and deepest, with a squarer footprint. Need something in between or larger? Send a message before ordering to ask about custom sizes.
Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur.
🎨 Color and Appearance
The backwall is printed in a solid-color filament and is not painted. Choose a filament tone that reads as natural sandstone or weathered rock for your layout. Some listing photos may show the backwall painted; those are finishing examples only, and your piece ships unpainted.
Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches. Appearance can also shift when submerged or viewed under aquarium lighting. Natural-looking variation comes from the filament color you select rather than applied paint, and an exact color match is not promised.
🖨️ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. These details are not considered defects and make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because each backwall is individually produced rather than injection molded.
🛠️ Made to Order
Each backwall is printed individually after you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time. All three sizes ship as a single piece, with no assembly needed.
📏 Custom sizes: if none of the listed sizes fit your enclosure, message CurioPrinta before purchasing to ask about a custom size.
⚠️ Safety and Compatibility
This product is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, openings, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your specific animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the item should be removed if it becomes damaged, as small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, water chemistry, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm suitability for your own setup before use.
CurioPrinta does not describe this product as "aquarium safe," "reptile safe," "non-toxic," or guaranteed for any specific animal. Species named in this listing are for search relevance and design context, not a compatibility or safety claim.

❓ FAQ
💧 Can this be placed underwater?
Yes, when you choose the PETG Wet Model. PETG is the material CurioPrinta uses for submerged and high-humidity decor because it handles prolonged water exposure better than standard PLA. Rinse it first, position it securely, and check it as part of normal maintenance.
🎨 Is the aquarium version painted?
No. The PETG Wet Model ships completely unpainted in a solid filament color. Any painted images are finishing examples only.
🧱 Can I order this in PLA?
Yes, as the PLA Dry Model for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, and dry display. PLA is not recommended for submerged aquarium use, constantly wet enclosures, or strong UV lighting.
☀️ Which version should I pick for a UV-lit desert setup?
The PETG Wet Model. PETG holds up to high-output UV much better than PLA. It is not immune, since continuous UV can gradually embrittle plastic over time, but it is the more durable choice for brightly lit enclosures.
📏 Can I get a custom size?
Possibly. Send a message before ordering with your enclosure measurements and the size you have in mind, and CurioPrinta will let you know what is possible.
🧩 Does it need assembly?
No. Every size, including the XL, ships as one single piece.
🖌️ Can I paint it myself?
You can, but for anything in an animal habitat you must independently research and confirm that any paint or coating is suitable for your intended species and conditions. CurioPrinta does not recommend customer-applied paint for submerged use and ships the backwall unpainted.
🧹 How should I clean it?
Rinse the PETG Wet Model with clean water and use a soft brush if needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasives, boiling water, and dishwashers. Dust the PLA Dry Model with a soft brush or a lightly damp cloth.
📷 Will it look exactly like the photographs?
Very close, but small differences in texture, layer lines, and color are normal for made-to-order 3D prints, and appearance can shift under aquarium lighting or when submerged.
🐟 Is it suitable for my specific fish, reptile, amphibian, snail, or shrimp?
That depends on your animal and setup, so please compare the dimensions, platforms, and openings against your species and follow qualified husbandry guidance. CurioPrinta cannot guarantee compatibility with any specific animal.
