Details
A weathered canyon wall in warm sandstone tones, stepped into tiered plateaus with a shaded cave carved into one side and a raised rock passage arching across the face. Set against the back pane of an enclosure, it turns flat glass into a layered rock landscape with real depth, climbing routes, and a sheltered retreat underneath. Basking ledges, planting shelves, and shadowed pockets give your animals somewhere to explore and give your build its backbone.
📖 Full Product Description
This is a 3D printed canyon rock backwall designed to sit against the rear pane of a terrarium, vivarium, or paludarium. Designed by novYTerra and inspired by natural gorges and wind-worn canyon faces, the surface is sculpted with the texture of layered sandstone: distinct edges, natural grain, and tiered rock plateaus that step up across the panel. The result reads as a real rock formation rather than a smooth molded sheet, and the varied depth gives the back of an enclosure genuine dimension.
Two structural features do most of the work. A spacious rock cave sits on one side of the panel, opening into a shaded retreat at substrate level. Above it, a raised rock passage bridges the two halves of the face, creating a natural arch that animals can move under or across. The stepped plateaus between them act as climbing terrain, observation perches, and planting shelves, so moss, small ferns, or trailing plants can grow into the stone over time and soften the canyon look into a settled, established landscape.
Placement is up to you. The panel can simply lean against the back glass and be held in place by substrate and hardscape, or it can be secured to the pane with a sealant of your choosing. If you are securing it, research and confirm that any adhesive or sealant you use is appropriate for your species and enclosure conditions before it goes in.
The rock styling works across a wide range of setups. For humid, misted, or bioactive builds, the PETG Wet Model is the version to choose, and it suits high-humidity keepers housing animals such as crested geckos, gargoyle geckos, and mourning geckos, along with invertebrates like tropical isopods and springtails. For arid and desert-style builds, the PLA Dry Model fits keepers of leopard geckos and fat-tailed geckos, plus invertebrates such as many tarantulas, scorpions, and desert isopods. Match the version to your habitat’s humidity, and compare the cave opening, the passage, and every ledge against the adult size and behavior of your specific animals before use.
You receive the canyon backwall panel in the size you select, printed unpainted in a single solid filament color. Plants, substrate, animals, lighting, and the enclosure itself are not included. Each piece is printed to order, so the exact texture and layer character will be slightly unique to your panel.

🧱 Material Options
This backwall is offered in two versions across all three sizes, so you can match it to the humidity and lighting in your enclosure:
PETG Wet Model
Choose this version for high-humidity, misted, bioactive, and damp setups, including the wet zones of a paludarium, and for enclosures running high-output UV lighting. It is printed in PETG and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for wet and high-UV decor rather than standard PLA because PETG handles prolonged moisture and UV exposure better than PLA. That is a material choice, not a guarantee: continuous high-output UV can still gradually embrittle PETG over time, and PETG is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or universally suitable for every animal or set of conditions.
PLA Dry Model
Choose this version for arid terrariums, desert-style builds, dioramas, tabletop terrain, shelf display, and general home decor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged use, constantly wet or heavily misted enclosures, or setups with strong UV lighting. Pick PLA only when the panel will stay dry and out of intense UV.
🔧 Setup, Use & Care
Before it goes in
💧 Rinse the panel with clean water before placing it in an enclosure.
🚫 Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
🔍 Inspect it first, and confirm the cave opening, the passage, and the ledges are appropriately sized for your animals.
Terrarium, vivarium & paludarium use
🌡️ Verify the version you chose suits your habitat’s temperature, humidity, lighting, and species. Humid and misted builds call for the PETG Wet Model; arid builds can use either, and the PLA Dry Model is intended for those.
🔥 Keep the panel away from direct contact with high-output heat lamps, heating elements, and other intense heat sources.
🧱 Position it securely, whether leaning against the rear pane or fixed in place, so it cannot shift, tip, collapse, or trap an animal. Support the base with substrate or hardscape if it is freestanding.
🦎 Check the cave, passage, and ledges against your animal’s adult size, not its current size.
🧹 Inspect regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or recesses that are hard to clean, and remove the panel if it becomes damaged or develops sharp areas.
📘 Let qualified, species-specific husbandry guidance take priority over general product suggestions, and observe your animals after adding anything new.
Cleaning
For the PETG Wet Model, rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Let it dry completely if it is removed for long-term storage. For the PLA Dry Model, dust with a soft brush or cloth, use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate, and keep it away from intense heat.
📐 Dimensions
Approximate dimensions (Length × Width × Height), imperial first with metric in parentheses:
Small (S1) 5.7" × 4.1" × 3.3" (145 × 105 × 85 mm)
Medium (S2) 7.5" × 5.4" × 4.4" (190 × 138 × 112 mm)
XL 9.2" × 7.7" × 9.2" (233 × 195 × 233 mm)
Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur. Measure your enclosure before ordering, especially the depth the panel will take up from the rear pane.
🎨 Color and Appearance
The panel is printed in a solid-color filament and is not painted. Choosing a filament tone that reads as natural sandstone or rock is what gives the canyon its color, rather than any applied paint, sealant, or coating. Some listing photos show the backwall painted; those are finishing examples only, and your panel ships unpainted.
Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches, and the panel’s appearance can shift under strong enclosure lighting or once it is damp. An exact color match is not promised.
🖨️ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. These details are not considered defects and make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, such as inside the cave or under the raised passage, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because each panel is individually produced rather than injection molded.
🛠️ Made to Order
Each panel is printed individually after you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time.
🧩 The XL size is too large for a single print, so it ships unassembled as separate printed sections that fit together to form the full canyon face. You arrange and secure the sections in your enclosure yourself. The Small (S1) and Medium (S2) sizes ship as a single piece.
⚠️ Safety and Compatibility
This product is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, cave opening, passage, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your specific animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the panel should be removed if it becomes damaged, since small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, humidity level, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm suitability for your own setup before use.
CurioPrinta does not describe this product as "reptile safe," "non-toxic," or guaranteed for any specific animal. Naming a species anywhere in this listing is for search relevance and design context, not a compatibility or safety claim.

❓ FAQ
💧 Can this be used in a wet setup?
Choose the PETG Wet Model for humid, misted, bioactive, and damp conditions, including the wet zones of a paludarium. PETG is what CurioPrinta uses for wet and high-UV decor because it handles prolonged moisture better than standard PLA. This listing is written for terrarium, vivarium, and paludarium use rather than full aquarium submersion.
🎨 Is the PETG version painted?
No. The PETG Wet Model ships completely unpainted in a solid filament color. Any painted images are finishing examples only.
🧱 Can I order this in PLA?
Yes, as the PLA Dry Model for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, and dry display. PLA is not recommended for submerged use, constantly wet or heavily misted enclosures, or strong UV lighting.
☀️ Which version should I pick for a UV-lit setup?
The PETG Wet Model. PETG holds up to high-output UV better than PLA. It is not immune, since continuous UV can gradually embrittle any plastic over time, but it is the more durable choice for brightly lit enclosures.
🧩 Does the XL size come assembled?
No. The XL prints in sections and ships unassembled as separate pieces that fit together into the full panel, which you position and secure yourself. The Small and Medium sizes ship as a single piece.
🔩 How do I mount it?
Either way works. Many keepers lean the panel against the back glass and hold it with substrate and hardscape, and others fix it to the pane with a sealant. If you are securing it, independently confirm that the adhesive or sealant you choose is appropriate for your species and conditions.
🖌️ Can I paint it myself?
You can, but for anything going into an animal habitat you need to independently research and confirm that the paint or coating is suitable for your intended species and conditions. CurioPrinta does not recommend customer-applied paint for wet or submerged use and ships the panel unpainted.
🧹 How should I clean it?
Rinse the PETG Wet Model with clean water and use a soft brush if needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasives, boiling water, and dishwashers. Dust the PLA Dry Model with a soft brush or a lightly damp cloth.
📷 Will it look exactly like the photographs?
It will be very close, but small differences in texture, layer lines, and color are normal for made-to-order 3D prints, and the panel can look different under your own lighting.
🦎 Is it suitable for my specific reptile, amphibian, or invertebrate?
That depends on your animal and setup, so compare the dimensions, cave opening, passage, and ledges against your species and follow qualified husbandry guidance. CurioPrinta cannot guarantee compatibility with any specific animal.
