Details
Old roots push their way through a weathered rock face, winding across the panel in thick, gnarled coils that look like they have been growing there for decades. Shadowed gaps open behind the root arches, and the bark and stone texture catches light the way real driftwood and cliff rock do. Set against the rear pane, it gives a flat glass wall depth, climbing terrain, and quiet corners for your animals to disappear into. It reads as a slice of real forest floor rather than a molded ornament.
📖 Full Product Description
This is a 3D printed backwall designed to sit against the rear pane of a terrarium, vivarium, paludarium, or aquarium. The design, "Old Tree" by novYTerra, sculpts an aged tree root system growing through a structured rock formation: heavy roots twist across the surface, split around raised stone, and lift away from the panel in places to leave arches, recesses, and shaded pockets behind them. The surface carries fine bark grain and rough rock texture, so it holds detail from across the room and rewards a close look.
Positioned along the back of an enclosure, it turns a plain wall into vertical structure. The root arches and recesses give small animals routes to climb, ledges to perch on, and gaps to shelter in, while the varied relief breaks up sightlines so a nervous animal always has somewhere out of view. In a planted or bioactive build, moss, ferns, and small epiphytes tuck naturally into the crevices between root and rock, and the panel takes on more character as growth and biofilm settle into the texture. In an aquarium it works as a hardscape backdrop, giving fish and invertebrates structure to weave through without the tannins, floating, or slow decay that come with real wood.
The naturalistic styling suits a wide range of keepers. For misted, planted, bioactive, or aquarium builds, the PETG Wet Model fits high-humidity residents such as dart frogs, tree frogs, crested geckos, and day geckos, along with invertebrates like tropical isopods and springtails, and it works as a background in freshwater tanks housing bettas, plecos, and cherry shrimp. For drier builds, the PLA Dry Model suits arid terrariums and display setups housing animals such as many tarantulas, jumping spiders, temperate isopods, and millipedes. Match the version to your habitat’s humidity, and compare every arch, gap, and overall dimension against the size and behavior of your specific animals before use, since a decorative opening is not automatically appropriate for every species.
You receive the backwall panel in the size you select, printed unpainted in a single solid filament color. It is offered in four sizes, from a tall portrait panel for small enclosures up to a wide XL that spans a larger tank, and every size ships as one piece. Plants, substrate, animals, lighting, and the enclosure itself are not included. Each panel is printed to order, so the texture and layer character will be slightly unique to yours.

🧱 Material Options
This backwall is offered in two versions across all four sizes, so you can match it to your enclosure:
PETG Wet Model
Choose this version for high-humidity, misted, bioactive, partially submerged, or aquarium setups, and for enclosures under high-output UV lighting. It is printed in PETG and supplied completely unpainted. CurioPrinta uses PETG for these setups rather than standard PLA because PETG handles prolonged moisture and UV exposure far better than PLA. That is a material choice, not a guarantee: continuous high-output UV can still gradually embrittle PETG over time, and PETG is not permanently waterproof, indestructible, chemically inert, or universally suitable for every animal or water condition.
PLA Dry Model
Choose this version for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, shelf display, and general home decor. PLA versions are not recommended for submerged aquarium use, constantly wet or heavily misted enclosures, or setups with strong UV lighting. Pick PLA only when the panel will stay dry and out of intense UV.
🔧 Setup, Use & Care
For submerged and aquarium use (PETG Wet Model)
💧 Rinse the panel thoroughly with clean water before placing it in an aquarium.
🚫 Avoid soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and unapproved chemical treatments.
🔍 Inspect the item before use and confirm the root arches and gaps are appropriately sized for the animals in the tank.
🧱 Position it securely so it cannot shift, tip, trap an animal, or press hard against the glass.
🔁 Check it periodically as part of normal aquarium maintenance, and remove it if it becomes damaged, develops sharp areas, or no longer fits securely.
🐟 Introduce any new decoration thoughtfully and observe your animals after installation.
For terrarium, vivarium & paludarium use
🌡️ Verify the material and design suit your habitat’s temperature, humidity, lighting, and species.
🔥 Keep it away from direct contact with high-output heat lamps, heating elements, open flames, and other intense heat sources.
🧱 Position the panel securely against the back so it cannot tip or collapse.
🦎 Check arches, gaps, and recesses against your animal’s adult size.
🧹 Inspect regularly for wear, damage, trapped waste, or areas that are hard to clean.
📘 Let qualified, species-specific husbandry guidance take priority over general product suggestions.
Cleaning
For the submerged PETG Wet Model, rinse with clean water and use a soft brush when needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, boiling water, dishwashers, and high-temperature cleaning. Allow it to dry completely if it is removed for long-term storage. For the dry PLA model, dust with a soft brush or cloth, use a lightly damp cloth when appropriate, and keep it away from intense heat.
📐 Dimensions
Approximate dimensions (Length × Width × Height), imperial first with metric in parentheses:
Small (S1), tall portrait panel 5.7" × 4.7" × 8.4" (145 × 120 × 213 mm)
Medium (S2) 7.5" × 4.7" × 5.7" (190 × 120 × 145 mm)
Large (S3) 7.5" × 6.3" × 7.5" (190 × 160 × 190 mm)
XL 11.5" × 7.6" × 5.7" (291 × 194 × 145 mm)
Because each item is individually 3D printed, minor dimensional variation may occur.
🎨 Color and Appearance
The panel is printed in a solid-color filament and is not painted. Choosing a filament tone that reads as aged wood or natural stone is what gives the piece its look, rather than any applied paint, sealant, or coating. Some listing photos may show the backwall painted; those are finishing examples only, and your panel ships unpainted.
Colors may look slightly different in person because of lighting, photography, monitor settings, and filament batches. The appearance can also shift when the panel is submerged or viewed under aquarium lighting. An exact color match is not promised.
🖨️ About 3D Printing
This item is created using FDM 3D printing technology. Fine layer lines, small seams, slight texture changes, and minor variations are normal characteristics of the process. These details are not considered defects and make each piece slightly unique. Support-contact marks may appear in hidden or recessed areas, such as underneath the root arches, and minor cosmetic differences can occur between prints because each panel is individually produced rather than injection molded.
🛠️ Made to Order
Each panel is printed individually after you order, so minor differences between pieces are normal. Production time is separate from shipping time.
🧩 All four sizes, including the XL, ship as a single piece. There is no assembly required.
⚠️ Safety and Compatibility
This product is decorative habitat decor, not a toy. You are responsible for deciding whether the size, material, arches, gaps, surfaces, and placement are appropriate for your specific animals and habitat. Animals should not be allowed to chew or ingest the material, and the item should be removed if it becomes damaged, as small parts or broken pieces may present a hazard. CurioPrinta cannot account for every species, animal behavior, enclosure design, water chemistry, temperature, or maintenance routine, so please confirm suitability for your own setup before use.
CurioPrinta does not describe this product as "aquarium safe," "reptile safe," "non-toxic," or guaranteed for any specific animal. Naming a species anywhere in this listing is for search relevance and design context, not a compatibility or safety claim.

❓ FAQ
💧 Can this be placed underwater?
Yes, when you choose the PETG Wet Model. PETG is the material CurioPrinta uses for submerged and high-humidity decor because it handles prolonged water exposure better than standard PLA. Rinse it first, position it securely, and check it as part of normal maintenance.
🎨 Is the aquarium version painted?
No. The PETG Wet Model ships completely unpainted in a solid filament color. Any painted images are finishing examples only.
🧱 Can I order this in PLA?
Yes, as the PLA Dry Model for arid terrariums, dioramas, tabletop terrain, and dry display. PLA is not recommended for submerged aquarium use, constantly wet enclosures, or strong UV lighting.
☀️ Which version should I pick for a UV-lit setup?
Choose the PETG Wet Model. PETG holds up to high-output UV far better than PLA. It is not immune, since continuous UV can gradually embrittle any plastic over time, but it is the more durable choice for brightly lit enclosures.
🧩 Does the XL need assembly?
No. Every size, including the XL, is printed and shipped as one piece.
🖌️ Can I paint it myself?
You can, but for anything going into an animal habitat you must independently research and confirm that the paint or coating is suitable for your intended species and conditions. CurioPrinta does not recommend customer-applied paint for submerged use and ships the panel unpainted.
🧹 How should I clean it?
Rinse the PETG Wet Model with clean water and use a soft brush if needed. Avoid soaps, bleach, solvents, abrasives, boiling water, and dishwashers. Dust the PLA Dry Model with a soft brush or a lightly damp cloth.
📷 Will it look exactly like the photographs?
It will be very close, but small differences in texture, layer lines, and color are normal for made-to-order 3D prints, and the appearance can shift under aquarium lighting or when submerged.
🐟 Is it suitable for my specific fish, reptile, amphibian, snail, or shrimp?
That depends on your animal and setup, so please compare the dimensions, arches, and gaps against your species and follow qualified husbandry guidance. CurioPrinta cannot guarantee compatibility with any specific animal.
